Big Business Keeps it Local

At 7,860 sq metres PAK’nSAVE Rangiora is the largest in the South Island. But owner/operator James Flanagan is no stranger to North Canterbury. The first store he managed was the old Woolworths supermarket on the corner of Queen and Victoria Streets.

The store, which opened in September 2015, now employs over 275 team members almost all of whom are North Canterbury locals. James and Catherine are delighted with the quality and loyalty of the workforce. And the appetite for working locally has been clear to see from the outset, for 200 advertised positions they had 2,000 applications.

“We have been fortunate to employ a number of our team from our previous supermarket experience in Rangiora, and they have brought immense value to our business,” says James.

Big Business Keeps it Local

The store is in a great location with really good visibility and in a region with a growing population, it has been doing great business. Shoppers come from as far afield as Kaikoura to stock up, says James. Opening day was bigger than expected and since then they have been running significantly ahead of their projections and are growing month on month.

The store is also supporting good causes in the local community and regularly sponsor different events and fundraisers. In addition, they’re also aligned with Kaiapoi-based Satisfy Food Rescue and supply them with surplus products.

Owners James and Catherine live locally and enjoy the ‘short commute’ to work. And they’re in Rangiora for the long haul. “To anyone thinking of moving here – I’d say why not? It’s a great place to live and do business”, says James.

Pak’nSAVE Rangiora is located at 2 Southbrook Road, Rangiora. For more information visit their website >>
