Held at MainPower Stadium in Rangiora on Friday, October 6th, the glitzy event attracted 371 attendees who enjoyed a celebratory evening of awards alongside great food, drink, music and hilarious compéring from MC Jackie Clarke.

The night’s top honour – the MainPower Supreme Award – was presented to Encounter Kaikōura. The veteran tourism business – which also won the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa Tourism Award on the night – was dubbed “an outstanding business with a clear vision,” by the judging panel.

This year was the first in the Awards’ 12-year history in which Kaikōura businesses were invited to enter. Seven Kaikōura based businesses made it to the finals with six receiving awards as category winners or runners-up.

“We are thrilled that a number of Kaikōura businesses entered, and that they did so well,” says ENC Chief Executive Heather Warwick. “There were 56 businesses in the finals from throughout North Canterbury, and they all took the time to submit a very thorough application. Although they couldn’t all be winners on the night, we congratulate them for getting to the finals stage, as it’s not easy.”

In addition to the two awards won by Encounter Kaikōura, the winners announced on the night were:

  • PAK’nSAVE Rangiora Community Enterprise Award: Satisfy Food Rescue
  • MADE NORTH CANTERBURY Food & Beverage Award: Mt Fyffe Distillery
  • CoolSpaces Sustainability Award: Magnifynz Limited
  • Percival Street Bakery Customer Service Award: Rangiora RSA Club
  • Totalspan North Canterbury Trades & Services Award: Designer Gates
  • BDO Professional Services Award: Modbod Facial Rejuvenation Clinic
  • Hellers Emerging Business Award: Visual Optics Limited
  • North Canterbury News People’s Choice Award: Zeberdee Equine Ltd.

Two runners up for each category were also awarded on the night.

Event organiser Guy Graham of ENC said the event was a resounding success.

“We had a new venue this year, a new brand, a fantastic turn out and our usual high standard of local food, beverages and entertainment. The result was a memorable night celebrating and recognising the amazing business community that we have here in North Canterbury.”
